P4 June Activities 1 Online Maths Games

1st Jun 2020

Here are the online maths sites for week 1 in June.  Use the website https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/measures to find these games or click directly on the links below. You should choose 1 game to play every day and practise until you are getting all the answers right.

1) Measuring in cm     https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/measuring-in-cm

A measuring game providing a useful introduction to using a ruler. Parents may need to demonstrate the positioning of objects at the beginning of the ruler rather than the end of the ruler.

There are two levels; one with whole numbers of centimetres and the second with mixed examples involving whole numbers and halves. You can play level 1 and level 2 in the game.

2) Capacity Countdown          http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/capacity/index.html

Capacity Countdown is a tablet-friendly volume scale reading game.  It aims to help pupils:

begin to measure capacity and volume [for example, full/empty, more than, less than, half, half full, quarter].
measure and begin to record capacity and volume.
choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit, using measuring vessels.
measure, compare, add and subtract volume/capacity (l/ml).

You can enjoy all 5 levels of this game.  Click on the GREEN button, read the scale and enter your answer on the calculator.  If you are right, your rocket will launch.  To make it trickier, you can enter half a litre as ½ l or 500 ml.

3) Mostly Postie           https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/mostlyPostie/index.html

Mostly Postie is a scale reading game with the following aims:

measuring mass and weight.
choosing/using appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g) to the nearest appropriate unit, using rulers and scales.
measuring/comparing, adding/subtracting lengths (m/cm/mm); mass (kg/g).

To play, you must:

Drag the parcel onto the scales.
Read the scales to find the mass of the object.
Type the mass on the keypad.
Press 'check' - if you're correct the post van will deliver your post.

You can play all 6 levels in this game.  To make it trickier, you can enter half kg as ½kg or 500g

4) Reading Scales       https://www.transum.org/Maths/Activity/Reading_Scales/KitchenScales.asp

This game is all about reading scales in increments of 1, 2, 5 and 10.  You need to look carefully at the scales to read them accurately.  You can only complete levels 1 and 2 of this game.  From level 3 on, it gets too difficult.  To play, all you need to do is read the scale on the jug or dial and fill in the answer.  How many can you get right?
