P4 Find out about Ants

1st Jun 2022

In June, P4 are going to find out all about ants.

Can you find an ant in your garden or when you are out for a walk.

This page contains some information about ants to help you.

Watch the videos about ants.  There are 6 videos by BBC Teach.  They are made especially for KS1 pupils and called 'Life on Planet Ant'.  There are pupils in each video asking lots of questions and finding out facts.  Watch them in this order:

  1. Inside an ant colony
  2. Why ants are different sizes
  3. Life cycle of an ant
  4. How ants communicate
  5. How ants live
  6. Building an ant nest

Next, read the presentation all about ants. The presentation will move in order, just like your Bug Club reading books if you click on the word 'Slideshow' along the very top of the screen (find File and keep reading across) and choose 'From Beginning'.  Just click on each page as you finish reading and the next one will appear.

Use all this information to complete the following two tasks during the week beginning Monday 6th June:

  1. write 4 interesting facts about ants
  2. draw the life cycle of an ant

Please complete these tasks on the 2 pages provided in your pack.  Please return to school on Mon 13th June inside your Home Learning folder so we can share them in class.

Can you find some ants in your garden or in the park? Can you make a home for your ants following the instructions on the video?
